Best Upcoming Single Player PC Games For 2024

2023 was a blockbuster year for the games industry, with an array of huge releases to enjoy. While most of us are still catching our breath from it all (and attempting to catch up with the backlogs), we’re still anticipating a good year ahead of us.

Here are some of the best single player PC games you can look forward to in 2024.

Best Single Player PC Games of 2024 – Release Dates Confirmed

These are just a handful of the immense range of games coming up in 2024; however, these are some of the most interesting and highly anticipated games. To make the list, they need to be single player (or at least have a significant single player mode.

There’s a good range here. From open world games to explore to third person action games to fighting games to chilled exploration games, here are some of the fantastic titles we’re looking forward to this year.

This list of best single player PC games is roughly in date order (which makes things easier as it’s way too hard to rank them by how excited we are!), although many have dates to be confirmed, which we’ll explore later on.. Let’s hope they do arrive in 2024.

January 2024

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (January 2024)

Kicking off the year in style, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an action-adventure platformer developed and published by Ubisoft.

A welcome sight for fans of the series, this is a single player video game with an interesting combat style and nice visuals.

The main character Sargon can use blades to defeat enemies, and will have access to special abilities if the player uses talismans, which can add some interesting twists to the combat.

The game looks to have all the exciting, action-packed platforming moments that the series is known for, and of course, Sargon will have time-based abilities, too.

Being able to rewind time to stop your character from plummeting to their doom is important, after all.

The plot seems to follow Sargon as they travel to a cursed city to rescue a stuck Prince.

Of course, we’ll find out more when the game is released in January, but it will be interesting to see where the story goes and how it compares to the other games in the series.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is due to be released on January 18th, 2024. You will be able to pick it up on Steam as well as several consoles.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (January 2024)

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega, is the ninth main entry to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series.

It follows on from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, so fans of the series will be excited to pick this one up too.

It’s an action-adventure RPG, following Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu. It’s set to have a fairly emotional story, as Ichiban looks for his mother and Kazuma nears the end of his life.

As they explore the gorgeously-rendered Hawaii, the player will be able to hone their skills in the fun, fast-paced combat system. Players can tweak and customize their moves, which become increasingly over-the-top.

It’s set to be a long journey, with plenty of the famous minigames to enjoy along the way, and players will have to sink a fair few hours into it to complete everything.

That and the emotional story will make this a must-play for fans of the series: it could be one of the most memorable single player games of the year.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is due to be released on January 26th, 2024, and can be played on Steam and various consoles.

Palworld (January 2024)

This next one is developed and published by Pocketpair. We don’t know too much about Palworld yet, but it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

The game features creatures similar to Pokemon, only, you know, with guns. Lots of guns.

Palworld made a splash when the trailer was released as part of the Summer Game Fest 2023, with potential players captivated by the adorable Pals and their seemingly violent attitudes.

It’s not just a straightforward battle game, though: it’s a survival and crafting game, and players will be able to capture a variety of creatures and, presumably, fight with other monsters.

The game isn’t releasing in full yet: it will enter early access in January 2024, so if you like what you see so far, you could hop on board early and enjoy the experience right from the start.

Palworld is coming onto Steam in early access in January 2024.

February 2024

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (February 2024)

One of the most anticipated single player games of this 2024, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games.

It’s an action-shooter game set in an open world, and while it does have a four-player co-op mode, you can play it as a single player game, too, so it still qualifies for this list!

It’s set in the world of the Batman: Arkham series. As far as superhero games goes, it looks like a fun one. Players step into the role of the Suicide Squad, with four playable characters to pick from.

The game combines exploration of the richly detailed Metropolis with action-packed combat. It looks to be fun whether you’re playing it alone or with friends! This looks to be one of the best single player PC games of the year, and it’s definitely not one to miss.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to be released on February 2, 2024. You can get it on Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series S|X.

Pacific Drive (February 2024)

We had to include Pacific Drive on this list as it looks so intriguing! Developed by Ironwood Studios and published by Kepler Interactive, Pacific Drive pits you against supernatural elements as you explore a strange version of the Pacific Northwest.

As you drive, you’ll be able to upgrade your faithful car (and you’ll need to, because it looks like it’s going to take a beating) and explore the mysterious buildings in The Zone to get to the bottom of experiments run by an organization called ARDA.

This is the first game by Ironwood Studios, and it’s one to watch if you like a unique experience and an interesting story: it looks to be pretty dramatic and could be one of the more interesting single player games to fill some dark February nights.

Pacific Drive is due to be released on February 22nd, 2024. You can get it on Steam, Epic Games Store, or the PS5.

March 2024

Life By You (March 2024)

Life By You

Life By You, developed by Paradox Tectonic and published by Paradox Interactive, is a life sim that looks as though it could offer some real competition to The Sims, the current life sim leader by Electronic Arts that remains one of the most iconic single player games to this day and a key franchise for one of the biggest game companies out there.

It seems that it will work in a similar way – design virtual people, create a home for them, and watch them live their lives – but it seems to be much more customizable than other life sim games, which is an intriguing twist for longtime Sims modders.

For example, players will be able to create full conversations using a text editor, creating dialogue options depending on where the conversation goes.

This means you have the potential to create a story-rich gameplay depending on your own preferred style.

Plus, there seems to be a Creator Tool, which will allow players to create (or at least, heavily customize) objects that their characters can interact with.

A very interesting prospect for creative players, although we don’t have the full details on how this will work.

LIFE BY YOU

We don’t know much information about Life By You just yet, but it looks promising so far.

Life By You is set to be released on March 5th, 2024. You will be able to play it on Steam and Epic Games.

Homeworld 3 (March 2024)

Homeworld 3 (March 2024)

Homeworld 3, developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox Publishing, is a real-time strategy game, and the third in the Homeworld series.

It puts a greater emphasis on solo gameplay than previous installments, making it a good contender for this list: it looks to be one of the more interesting single player games to lose yourself in for a while.

Homeworld 3

Set in space, Homeworld 3 is a follow-on from the previous two games, so returning players will be able to see the story develop.

It looks to have a rich story, but it may take a bit of reaching back in the past to remember what happened – the series started all the way back in 1999, so it’s a bit of a throwback, so it’s safe to say that it will be quite different to the others in many ways.

Talk about a long wait. Veteran players deserve a fun experience after all this time!

Homeworld 3 is due to be released on March 8th, 2024. You will be able to get it on Steam or Epic Games Store.

Alone in the Dark (March 2024)

Alone in the Dark

Now for a good dose of nostalgia! Developed by Pieces Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, Alone in the Dark is a survival horror game, a remake of the classic 1992 game.

Players will be able to step into the role of memorable characters Emily and Edward as they explore Derceto Manor.

Only this time, they’ll be voiced by Jodie Comer (of Killing Eve and Free Guy fame) and David Harbour (known primarily, of course, for his role in Stranger Things), which is a nice Hollywood twist.

Of course, things have changed quite a lot since 1992; the fixed-camera perspective has gone, replaced with an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective instead.

Fans of the series will be hoping that the spirit of the original will remain intact despite the modern restyle: hopefully it will be one of the scarier single player games of the year. It should be fun (and hopefully spooky) to creep around the Manor, anyway.

Alone in the Dark is due to be released on March 20th, 2024. You can play it on Steam.

April 2024

Europa (April 2024)

Europa

Europa is described as ‘a peaceful game of adventure, exploration, and meditation’, and that about sums it up!

A beautiful game developed by Novadust Entertainment/Helder Pinto and published by Future Friends Games, this is one of the indie games to watch in 2024.

Players must explore the gorgeous Europa, explore ancient ruins, and have fun zooming around on a jetpack, which they can slowly upgrade as the game progresses, allowing them to whizz around quickly to investigate new areas.

Your role is to find the last human alive, but it looks to be a calming, moving story about humanity and nature, and a nice breath of fresh air if you need a change of pace.

If you love a quiet, thoughtful game, this is one to watch. It has a Studio Ghibli vibe, with plenty of otherworldly magic to enjoy.

There are puzzles to solve and artifacts to uncover, and really, it looks to be one of the more interesting single player games to look forward to in 2024.

Europa is due to be released on April 16th, 2024. You can check it out on Steam.

The following games don’t have a firm release date yet, but hopefully they won’t be long: they look to be some of the best single player PC games of the next year.

Horizon: Forbidden West (TBC)

Horizon: Forbidden West

Horizon: Forbidden West was a smash hit back in 2022 when it launched on the PS4/PS5, and PC gamers will be relieved to see it this year.

Developed by Guerrilla Games/Nixxes Software and published by PlayStation PC LLC, it is, of course, a sequel to the hugely popular Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Aloy’s adventure continues in this third-person action game with some RPG elements, with the usual gripping story, intense combat, and a ton of side quests to complete.

The captivating gameplay and gorgeous world are as brilliant as ever, and we get to see Aloy (one of the most iconic female characters of all time) develop even more.

We are introduced to new characters, too, which allows us to see even more of Aloy’s character. We won’t say any more in case you’ve managed to avoid spoilers so far, but it’s an excellent addition to the series.

You’ll need a decent PC to make the most of this: the stunning visuals are sure to be gorgeous on higher-end gaming PCs, although hopefully, it will run on a range of computers.

PC gamers have been waiting for this for a while, after all!

Horizon: Forbidden West is due to arrive on Steam sometime in 2024.

Little Nightmares III (TBC)

Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, this is the third game in the Little Nightmares series.

It’s a puzzle-platformer horror adventure game. A bit of a mouthful! Essentially, you can expect clever puzzles, fun platforming, and genuine fear from this game.

In Little Nightmares III, players will control Low and Alone, two children facing their worst nightmares together.

They will have to traverse the strange landscape, avoid horrible enemies, and try to survive intact.

With three games in the main series altogether (including this one) Little Nightmares has dedicated fans who will be excited to play this one.

There’s a co-op mode, so you can in theory play it with a friend, but you can play solo with an AI companion if you’d prefer, so it just about has a single player mode (and therefore qualifies to be on this list!).

Creepy, thought-provoking, and memorable, this is definitely one to look out for in 2024.
